The Weight Loss King? How Did A 32-Year-Old Man Lose 111 Pounds In 101 Days?

13 Mar

Just about everyone wants to lose weight. Some want to lose a lot. Some just want to lose a little. No matter how much weight you want to lose, you probably would like to know who “The Weight Loss King” is and how this 32-year-old lost 111 pounds in 101 days. Here’s the story…

“The Weight Loss King” was seriously overweight at 333 lbs. His health was spiraling out of control and he sat himself down and decided he had to make a change. That change was going to be a 10-day juice fast.

By the third day, things looked bleak. Hunger and the detoxification process was waging war on him. But he kept his promise to himself and made it to the fourth day. That’s when things started to get a little better…

Each day he just tried to make it to the next. By the 8th day, he shot a video about his progress. He had lost 16 lbs., but he said something much more important happened than the amount of weight he had lost. He said that his initial goal was to make it 10 days. But now on the 8th day, he changed his goal. His new goal was to stay on the juice fast for another 10 days, and possibly 10 after that, for a total of 30 days.

This meant he was going to miss Thanksgiving, but by this time, he knew he was creating a whole new life for himself. He admitted he didn’t even think he was going to make it the initial 10 days. It’s amazing how things can change…

He made another video update on day 15, and reported that he was down 23 lbs. This time, he said he was going for 30 days and it was clear by the conviction in his voice that he was going to make it. In this video, his entire face was beginning to change and he was becoming a completely different person.

By day 22, he had lost 30 lbs. He said he had one week to go and he wanted to drop another 10 lbs. in his final week.

On day 30, you could see everything had changed. He was down 38 lbs. and he looked and talked like a new person. He said, “I’m on day 30 of a 10 day juice fast which means I’ve done better than I thought I could.” The most important thing was the self-confidence he now possessed, and the incredible positive momentum he was building.

He announced that he changed his goal once again and he planned to do a full 60 days on the juice fast. By day 33, he was down 41 lbs. He said that he was feeling the best he had ever felt in his life. The days went by and the weight continued to come off. Each video update was better than the previous one, until he reached his ultimate goal by dropping a whopping 111 pounds in 101 days.

So what do a juice fast and all this weight loss have to do with you? The weight loss actually has nothing to do with you, but there is something much more important here that does…

On his last video update, he said he thought reaching his juice fast goal would be the end, but when he got there, he realized it was just the beginning. The important thing here is that he did not attempt a 101 day juice fast. He only attempted 10 days. He committed himself to something small and believable and then he took action. He just tried to make it through each day, one day at a time. When he did, the momentum grew. That’s how big changes take place, one small step at a time.

No one is telling you or anyone else to do a juice fast. For this newsletter, the juice fast is merely symbolic of the process of change and how you can achieve major accomplishments in your life by making a commitment to a small, attainable goal and taking one small step at a time. The key is taking that first step.

Super Storm Sandy Destroyed Many Things, But Not The Human Spirit. This Wonderful Story Is Proof…

Super Storm Sandy is said to be the largest hurricane on record at over 1,000 miles wide. The highest wind gusts (94 mph) were recorded in Eatons Neck, New York. 33 inches of snow piled up in Clayton, West Virginia. Waves were 39.67 feet 500 miles southeast of Atlantic City, New Jersey… 32.5 feet just outside New York Harbor entrance and 21.7 feet in lower Lake Michigan.

The devastation was unimaginable. Homes were destroyed, the power was out for an estimated 7.4 million people, and over 110 people were killed in the storm.

There was and still is plenty to curse about that storm, but there are also some amazing stories, stories that show the good in people and how we come together in a time of need.

Here is one of the most amazing stories from Super Storm Sandy…

As the story goes, Christine is a homeowner in Toms River, New Jersey. She evacuated her home before Sandy hit. When she returned to her home, she found a note. The note had evidently been left by someone who had broken into her home during the storm while he was trying to survive.

The person “stole” a blanket and jacket to try to keep from freezing to death. The person who broke into Christine’s house was a 28 year old New Jersey man named Mike. The note was basically Mike’s last words and request to contact his father and let him know he had died.

Here’s what the note said: “Whoever reads this I’m DIEING – I’m 28 yrs. old my name is Mike. I had to break into your house. I took blankets off the couch. I have hypothermia. I didn’t take anything. A wave thru me out of my house down the block. I don’t think I’m going to make it. The water outside is 10ft deep at least. There’s no res[c]ue. Tell my dad I love him and I tryed get[t]ing out. His number is ###-###-#### his name is Tony. I hope u can read this I’m in the dark. I took a black jacket too. Goodbye. God all mighty help me.”

A picture of the note spread like wildfire over Facebook and Twitter. Then, it was seen by radio talk show host, Justin Louis. Justin called the number in the note and someone answered.

The person who answered the phone was Tony. Justin told Tony about the note and Tony said that Mike is his son. Then, Tony asked if Justin wanted to talk to Mike.

Yes, Mike had survived! Justin interviewed Mike, and Mike told him how he had been swept out to sea for hours. His house was flooding and when he walked out the door, he was literally swept away into the bay.

Mike couldn’t make it back to his house because the current was too strong. He spent 5 hours battling the current and waves until ending up at Christine’s house where he grabbed some clothes and wrote the note. He was at Christine’s house for 2 hours before he was picked up by a man named Frank on a Waverunner. Frank rescued Mike and brought him to his house.

Now, Mike says he is afraid of the dark because of all that time he spent in the bay with 20 foot waves crashing over him, but that’s a lot better than the alternative.

One Human, One Animal. Two heartwarming and motivational stories you may find hard to believe…

In October, the World Health Organization (WHO) came out with a shocking statistic: More than 350 million people suffer from depression globally.

“It is not a disease of developed countries, it is a global phenomenon. It’s present in both genders and in rich and poor populations,” Dr. Shekhar Saxena, head of the WHO’s Mental Health and Substance Abuse Department, told reporters in Geneva.

Researchers claim that nearly 1 million people take their lives every year and more than half of them suffer from depression.

That’s why it is important to hear about people like Chuck Pagano. Chuck is the Head Coach of the Indianapolis Colts and was hospitalized with leukemia the week before his team’s 4th game in the NFL this season.  Chuck sent a letter (email) to his team that showed his true character. The email told them to focus on their task at hand and not on him.

Here is a portion of the letter:

My condition will not determine my position. I understand the condition but choose to focus on my position. That is to stay positive and SERVE.

WE WILL, WE CAN, WE MUST. WE HAVE NO CHOICE. BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. WE WILL OVERCOME.  IT’S ALL IN THE PROPER STATE OF MIND.

There is no better owner in the NFL, period! He has built an organization based on Faith, Family and Football. Don’t ever mistake the ORDER.

We all have a job to do. We know and understand that. That’s why we signed up for it. We knew there were going to be tough times. This is not for everybody, but I know deep in my heart we are all here because we’re supposed to be.

Focus on being .500 by 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Nothing else. LASER SHARP FOCUS. That has to be our mindset.  60 minutes, all you got, one play at a time!  WIN!

His team won in dramatic fashion, and the owner offered Chuck the game ball.  Chuck declined because it was not supposed to be about him.

Now for one of the most touching animal stories EVER…

Capitán is a German Shepherd that lives in Argentina.  Capitán may also be the most loyal dog that ever lived.  Here is why…

In 2006, Capitán’s owner, Manuel Guzman, died, and Capitán ran away from home. A week later, Guzman’s family found Capitán at his owner’s gravesite… heartbroken.  No one had ever taken Capitán to the gravesite; he found it all by himself.

Since then, every day for 6 years, Capitán spends most of his time in the cemetery near his master’s grave. The cemetery director has been feeding and taking care of loyal Capitán. According to the cemetery director, “During the day, he sometimes takes a walk around the cemetery, but always rushes back to the grave.  And every day, at 6:00 p.m. sharp, he lies down on top of the grave and stays there all night.”

The Tale Of Two Heroes.

5 Mar

What do you imagine when you think about a hero?  Most envision people with super-human qualities that make them larger than life.  Hollywood movies have trained us to think this way through characters like Batman, Superman, the X-Men, and more.

But, the fact of the matter is, real heroes do exist.  They NEVER have super-human powers.  Ironically, most of the time, they are either completely average or are even challenged in a way that would lead some people to believe they could never be a hero.

Harry Moseley is a perfect example.  Harry was a cancer stricken Birmingham, England youngster who is the subject of a new book written by his mother.

Harry was only 11 years old and struggled with a brain tumor.  At a time when many people feel sorry for themselves and give up, Harry dedicated his life to helping others.

He made bracelets to raise cash for several charities.  He also donated gifts sent to him from other people and went to schools to talk to students.  From doing all of this, he raised more than £650,000 for charity.

Harry’s legacy will live on partly because of what he did and partly because his mother has authored a book about her son with the help of a ghost writer. She said, “He would have been so proud of the book.  I only wish that it was an autobiography rather than a biography. I’m just writing it on his behalf…  It has been a real labor of love to put together. There have been emotional moments, and I cry whenever I have to read through it again, but I believe Harry deserved this.”

She added, “The story relives Harry’s life, but focuses more on when he was diagnosed and how he selflessly helped others. A lot of people know about the bracelets, but they don’t know about the other things he did… I wanted to tell people about his work and this was the perfect way to do it.”

Harry is not alone.  Paul Oxley has a story that is equally impressive.  Paul suffered with cystic fibrosis his entire life, but he did not let his illness get in the way of helping others.

He belonged to a site called “post pals” and took time every single day to help other sick children.  He constantly encouraged the children to make the most of their lives and stay positive despite their illnesses.  Even with everything he did, Paul still had time to play football or referee the games.

Not only that, over the years he raised more than £12,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in the hopes of helping other sufferers with the condition. He was named a Herald Young Hero in 2010 and received the Marjorie Lynden Stannator Award for his charity work. The devoted youngster also received a Lifetime Achievement accolade at the Pride of Plymouth awards in 2009.

All this time, he was struggling himself and waiting for a transplant that never came.  Several times he got the call saying they had found a donor, but each time they ended up not being compatible.

Paul Oxley passed away at the age of 21, still waiting for that transplant.

That’s why his parents are making a plea to change organ donor laws.  They would like to see it changed to an opt-out system.  In other words, everyone is automatically an organ donor and must opt out if they do not want to do it.

Are You A Dog Lover?

1 Mar

If you are a dog lover, here’s a silly question… If your dog was in pain, what would you be willing to do to take away that pain? The answer (of course) is ANYTHING. You would do anything it takes to make your loving pet feel good. That’s why it was no surprise that this story went viral on the internet. The post about it on Facebook got over 207,000 likes and 116,000 shares almost instantly.

The story is about a Wisconsin man, John Unger, and his dog, Schoep. John rescued Schoep 19 years ago when he was only 8 months old. They instantly became best friends and went through almost two decades of ups and downs together.

In his old age, Schoep has become riddled with arthritis. It is so bad that he has a very hard time sleeping. John discovered that Schoep feels better in water, so he takes him into Lake Superior at night and holds Schoep up while he sleeps.

A photographer, Hannah Stonehouse-Hudson, is John’s friend and captured one of the “Schoep sleeping moments” with an incredible picture. In the picture, Schoep is out cold with his head resting on his owner’s chest. Partially submerged, the warm lake water soothes Schoep’s aches and pains enough so he can rest peacefully.

It is a picture of polar opposites; both heartbreaking and wonderful all at the same time. It’s heartbreaking to see Schoep in the final stages of his life, and wonderful to see such an incredible loving bond between a man and his dog. Because Schoep trusts John enough to fall asleep while his owner holds him up in the lake, you instantly know the love that was given during all those years to create that trust.

John Unger is reported as saying that he will do whatever he has to do to give Schoep relief from pain. He credits Schoep with saving his life 19 years ago when a relationship failed.

According to an interview with John Unger in the Huffington Post: After breaking up with his former fiancée, Unger had been having suicidal thoughts. “To be honest with you, I don’t think I’d be here if I didn’t have Schoep with me (that night)… He just snapped me out of it. I don’t know how to explain it. He just snapped me out of it… I just want to do whatever I can for this dog because he basically saved my [behind].”

Every night, John carries his dog into the waters of Lake Superior and holds him up while he sleeps. Yes, he stands in the lake water while his dog sleeps every single night.

Photographer Hannah Hudson said, “I want people to identify with this photo, and remember a time when they felt safe, loved, and cared for… Then I want them to channel those feelings and pay it forward! There is way too much negativity in this world – maybe with this one photo we can start to change things just a tiny bit.”

We just “paid it forward.” You should, too.

Blade Runner Oscar Pistorius Makes Olympic History As The First Double Amputee To Compete. Find Out Why Some Say He Shouldn’t Be There…

22 Feb

The term “handicapped” became politically incorrect quite a few years ago.  Now, with the help of modern technology (and a ton of hard work), the label “handicapped” is certainly a misnomer for Oscar Pistorius.

The South African sprinter is known as the “Blade Runner” and “the fastest man on no legs.” After having both his legs amputated when he was 11 months old, it was a long, hard road to become the first double amputee to compete in the Olympics.

Pistorius, who has a double amputation, is the world record holder for sport class T44 in the 100, 200 and 400 meter events and runs with the aid of Cheetah Flex-Foot carbon fibre transtibial artificial limbs.

Pistorius participated in his first international competition against “able-bodied” athletes in 2007, but things didn’t work out as planned…

The International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) changed its rules and banned the use of “any technical device that incorporates springs, wheels or any other element that provides a user with an advantage over another athlete not using such a device.”

Some scientists say that his prosthesis is not a handicap but instead, an unfair advantage.

One such scientist is respected sports doctor Ross Tucker.  According to Dr. Tucker, “In science, you start with theory, then you come up with hypotheses, and then test them. This was done for Pistorius, and every finding suggests advantage, with no exceptions.”

There are three theories for the advantage, the reduced weight of the limbs, their spring effect and the absence of fatigue. According to research, the above factors result in some startling performance-enhancing advantages.

His carbon-fiber prostheses are so much lighter that Pistorius is able to re-position his legs 11 percent faster than the next fastest runner ever measured. This is crucial, because the speed of human sprinters is determined by how fast they can move their legs. This also means his muscles have to work less to exert force on the ground and to re-position his legs. This saves energy, a crucial element of any event longer than 200m.

Finally, the energy returns from the springy carbon-fiber is 92 percent compared to a 59 percent return for muscles. Simply put, the carbon fiber does a better job of providing energy than muscles and tendons do.

Others beg to differ.  Testing done with Pistorius by Prof Peter Weyand suggests that he does not gain an advantage from his carbon-fiber prosthesis.

On January 14, 2008, the IAAF ruled Pistorius ineligible for their competitions, including the 2008 Summer Olympics.  The decision was reversed in May of 2008.  Pistorius did not qualify for the South African team in 2008 but he did for the 2012 London games.

He will compete in the 400m and the 4 x 400m relay races.  No matter what side of “science” you are on, this is an incredible story.  Oscar Pistorius is a true Olympic hero.  He is a hero to everyone, with or without a “handicap.”  After seeing what Pistorius has done, all your excuses for not eating right, exercising and living the life you really want are pretty much null and void, don’t you think?

We love helping our patients and their friends and relatives through their tough times and getting them feeling better!  We are here to help you stay feeling better and looking younger!  Don’t be a stranger.  You really can afford Chiropractic care! Don’t wait until you can no longer move!
